Symptoms of cervical osteochondrosis may appear at any age.This disease occurs most often in older people, and damage can be observed not only in the neck.However, the degenerative process of the neck is now exacerbated in young people who are mainly engaged in mental work.It should be understood that it is very difficult to completely cure cervical osteochondrosis, but it is possible to halt its progression and significantly improve a person's health.
Causes and mechanisms of formation
The dystrophic process of the cervical spine begins slowly.The most important causes of the disease are a sedentary lifestyle and certain types of mineral metabolism disorders.
If the cause of osteochondrosis of the neck is eliminated, then there is a good chance of curing its individual symptoms.Otherwise, if it continues, the person's condition will only worsen.
Under the influence of the underlying cause of osteochondrosis of the neck, the following changes occur:
- The trigger point is stagnation of the lymphatic and circulatory systems;
- Then degenerative and destructive changes occur in the intervertebral disc, which acts as a shock absorber between the vertebrae; its height and plasticity decrease;
- Later, growth of bone tissue in the vertebrae is noted;
- All of this results in limited mobility of the spine and increased pressure on the blood vessels and nerves that pass through the spinal bony apparatus.

The sooner appropriate treatment is started, the greater the chance of slowing the progression of the disease or even completely curing the patient.
Any external or internal influence may cause the disease to worsen.This could be a viral infection, cold temperatures, strenuous physical activity, or even changes in air pressure.The stronger the cause of the exacerbation, the more obvious the symptoms of the disease.
Characteristics of cervical osteochondrosis
The symptoms of cervical osteochondrosis gradually increase, and in the early stages of the disease they actually do not bother the patient.You may feel dizzy only sometimes.But cervical osteochondrosis should not be ignored: symptoms in the later stages of the disease are difficult to eliminate.
Since the cervical spine is directly connected to the brain, if dystrophic changes occur in this specific area, many symptoms of the central nervous system will be noticed.This is due to the gradual deterioration of blood circulation in the brain and metabolic disorders.
In many patients, the first symptoms that can be observed are those indicating brain damage:
- Sudden changes in blood pressure;
- Dizziness;
- Burning sensation in the temporal area and diffuse headache;
- Temperatures rarely rise to lower levels.
In conjunction with the above symptoms, signs of damage to the neck itself can be observed:
- Over time, the pain begins to radiate to the back, arms, and back of the head;
- Difficulty moving; cracking, crunching, numbness, or burning in the neck when tilting or turning the head;
- Body temperature is normal.
As osteochondrosis progresses, a person's condition will worsen, the number of exacerbations will increase, and the condition will worsen. Over time, it is difficult to completely cure the disease and can only alleviate some pain.
Unlike the inflammatory process, the temperature rarely changes.In the later stages of cervical osteochondrosis, the exacerbations virtually never go away; combined severe damage to the brain and spine will be noted:
- A spike in blood pressure or persistent high blood pressure;
- Persistent dizziness and headache, which are worse with little exercise;
- Neck pain, burning, and limited movement;
- Body temperature may rise slightly but more often remains normal.

The so-called vertebral artery syndrome often occurs when a degenerative dystrophic process covers the middle part of the neck.Such people almost always experience headaches, pressure and burning in their temples, congestion and noise in their ears, and may feel dizzy or even lose consciousness when turning their heads.Curing vertebral artery compression syndrome is nearly impossible.
On the contrary, in some people you can observe signs of damage to the upper limbs (mainly changes in the cervical and brachial plexuses):
- Burning or numbness in various parts of the upper limbs;
- Dizziness rarely occurs;
- Skin temperature decreases.
The consequences of osteochondrosis can be serious: persistent headaches and dizziness, memory and concentration problems, persistent numbness throughout the neck.
Treatment
An almost complete restoration of osteochondrosis to its original state can be achieved only after the early stages of osteochondrosis and elimination of its causes.Progression of the disease requires more intensive treatment.In later stages, the goal of treatment is to eliminate pain, dizziness, and inflammatory changes.Cervical osteochondrosis can be cured by:
- Chondroprotective agent, restores the original structure of intervertebral disc cartilage tissue;
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) relieve pain and inflammation;
- A multivitamin complex rich in B vitamins that improves the nutrition of nervous tissue;
- Nootropics used to correct serious disorders of brain tissue;
- Comprehensive physical therapy and massage (if severe dizziness and high blood pressure are not present);
- Physiotherapy (water, iontophoresis, magnetic therapy), while the temperature and pressure of the factors should be quite high, and combustion is considered a positive effect.
Treatment of osteochondrosis depends largely on the patient.The sooner necessary treatment is started and the more carefully the doctor's prescriptions are followed, the greater the chance of success and the greater the patient's quality of life.
